Derelict Combat Guide
Combat in Derelict punishes reckless play. Understanding the three resource bars, dodge timing, and parry mechanics is essential for survival.
HP, Souls & Stamina
- HP (Health) ?When depleted, you die and drop souls at your death location
- Souls ?Used for casting spells and Weapon Arts. Regenerates over time
- Stamina ?Consumed by attacking, dodging, blocking, and sprinting. Regenerates when not in use
Never empty your stamina bar completely. Always leave enough to dodge out of danger. Managing all three bars simultaneously is the core skill of Derelict combat.
Dodge & I-Frames
Press Q (or B) to dodge roll. During the roll animation, you have brief invincibility frames where attacks pass through you.
- Roll into the attack direction for reliable i-frames
- Each dodge costs stamina ?chain dodges carefully
- Heavy attacks from bosses require early dodges, not panic rolls
Practice on chickens and bandits near Gideon's Camp before fighting dungeon enemies.
Parry & Posture
Press RMB at the exact moment an enemy attack connects to parry. Successful parries:
- Deflect the attack entirely
- Deplete the enemy's posture meter
- When posture breaks, perform a Riposte for massive damage
Blocking (holding RMB) also damages posture but costs more stamina and you still take chip damage. Parrying is superior against humanoid enemies with readable attack patterns.
Weapon Arts & Abilities
Each weapon has a unique Weapon Art activated with Z. Examples:
- Solar Charge ?Dash attack with fire damage
- Frosthowl ?Frost AoE (Frosthorn rapier)
- Piercing Shot ?High damage bow shot
- Overhead Slam ?Great hammer ground slam
Swap Weapon Arts at any Bonsai station. Weapon Arts consume souls and have cooldowns. Save them for boss fights and tough encounters.
Insight Leveling
Unlike traditional XP levels, Derelict uses Insight tied to skill levels. The more you use skills (combat, mining, archery, sorcery), the higher your Insight grows.
Higher Insight increases your overall combat effectiveness. Focus on leveling the skills matching your build: Strength for melee, Sorcery for spells, Archery for bows.
